Adding the File Path and Name to the Page Footer (All Documents)
This ITip explains how to insert the location (or path) of the file into the footer of a document on all future documents.
This works in Word 2000 and Word 2002.
Select Open from the File menu.
- Select Document Templates (*.dot) from the Files of type: list.
- Select the folder where your templates are stored (this will probably be "windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates)."
- Select Normal.dot and then
press the Open button.
Select Header and Footer from the View menu. - The header and footer will be outlined by dotted lines you will also see the Header and Footer toolbar.
Press the Switch Between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar to move to the page footer (three along to the left of Close on the diagram above).
Select Field from the Insert menu.
Press Insert AutoText on the Header and Footer toolbar, and then select Filename and path.
- Finally Save and then Close the file.
N.B. If you can't find Normal.dot use the Search program (available on the Start menu) to look for it.
